Bajin the Theif - The Wilderness
She was beginning to see something in Bajin besides his profession.  She didn't know why or what, but she actually didn't mind him that much anymore.

"Ok Gwynn." Said Bajin, "We're getting ready to go into the heart of the great Devilinian plains.  Keep an eye out for me, ok?"

Gwynn didn't know what he was talking about. "What do you mean keep an eye out?  Is it dangerous?"

Bajin laughed.  "Of course Gwynn.  We are in the middle of an unpatrolled area of Deviline.  There are many monsters out here.  I thought you went to battle with your father before.  Surely you've seen some of them."

"No Bajin, actually we just had a skirmish right outside of our keep.  Deviline was the furthest I've ever been from home."

"Aha.  Well, you've never really experienced much then.  You have to keep a sharp eye out for Goblins, Gnolls, and such.  Basically, if you see anything non-human, or even any dangerous looking humans tell me."

She nodded and felt a bit uneasy.  She knew of the dangers of the outside world, but she had never actually seen anything besides humans, elves, and dwarves.  The common races of the continent of Solomon.

Bajin twitched his head to one side.  He had heard something.

"Get down."  Bajin whispered.

The thief then proceeded to draw a rapier and jump of the cart.  He approached a rustle in the weeds.  Suddenly, a Panther like Demon jumped out of the dense grass.

Bajin drew his dagger as backup and fell back.  The creature jumped on top of him and began to claw at his worn leather armor.  He stabbed the beast in the side, but this just seemed to anger it.

Bajin rolled to his side and pushed the creature off.  He pulled out the dagger and stood up.  The panther demon lunged forward to knock him down again, but this time Bajin turned to his side and the creature slid passed him.  He stabbed it behind the neck with his rapier.  It yelled in pain and turned to strike again.  It was loosing blood fast.

Bajin took out his dagger and jumped on the creatures back.  He slit it's throat and left it laying dead on the ground.

"That's what I mean by dangerous.  If I kept going it would have been worse."  Bajin gasped.

Gwynn was amazed by the skill in which he killed it.

"What was that thing?"  she asked.

"A Panther Leech."  Bajin said."  It will weaken you to the point that you cannot move, then leech out your blood.  That's what keeps it alive."

"I've never seen a fight like that.  You are better than the knights that my father has employed."

"Bah.  I just keep on my toes.  One of your fathers knights could tear me to peices.  That's why we hide in the shadows.  I could never pierce the armor."

They proceeded then, into the plains.  It seemed like there was more ahead than Gwynn expected.
Gwynn awoke the next morning to the smell of food.  She raised her groggy head and saw in front of her a crude plate of cooked rabbit.

"What's this?"  She asked Bajin.

"Food girl.  Eat it."  He replied.

Gwynn sniffed the rabbit and it smelled delicious, but she didn't know if she wanted to eat it or not.  After all, it was a wild animal.  She pondered at this for a while and decided that she may not get any food if she didn't, and besides, she was starved.  She dug in.

"What do you do for fun?"  Bajin asked.

Gwynn was a bit suprised that he would ask a question like this, after all she would expect a smart remark if she replied.  She decided to tell him anyway.

"Well, dad really wanted to have a boy, so I do guy stuff.  Most of it is along the lines of archery and fencing."

"Oh really?"  Asked Bajin suprisingly.  "I wouldn't expect a noble girl like you to do that.  I guess you learn something new every day."

"Yes, I'm not the average everyday royal girl you know.  I have actually been to a battle with my father.  It's ruthless, but I kinda enjoyed it."

"Well.  I really wouldn't think that of you.  What makes a girl like you inclined to aggression?"

"I really couldn't tell you sir.  I suppose it's just the way I was raised."

After the last comment, Bajin turned around and began packing some things.  Gwynn then noticed how defined he was.  He was very toned with muscles.  Long Black hair with specks of grey in it.  This is when she first noticed the scars on his face.  It was too dark last night to see all this clearly.  She found him quite handsom.

"I don't know your name sir.  I've been with you almost a day now and you haven't told me."
Gwynn stated.

"Bajin." He said.  "That will do.  I won't tell you my last name because there are some things better left unknown.  I already know you are Gwynn, after all, that's why I kidnapped you."

"Why can't you just get a job?"

"Puah! A job you say?  I wouldn't put myself in leagues with the filthy peasants of this land."

"And you think what you do is clean cut work eh?"

If looks could kill, Bajin's would have killed Gwynn at this moment.

"You listen girl."  He spit out.  "You have NO Idea what I go through every day.  I struggle to make it, but there's nobody to tell me what to do.  I make my way and I'm happy with it.  You don't DARE to question my proffesion!"

Gwynn was took aback by this, and she decided it best not to say anything else about the subject. Just like Bajin had told her, there are some things better left unsaid.

Bajin then got on the seat in the front of the donkey cart and started the mule running while positioning his bags beside him.  Gwynn watched as his strong arms guided the reins.
