SATELLITE PHOTO OF MARREE MAN

A detailed 4 kilometre long portrait of a Pitjantjatjara tribe Aboriginal hunter - the world's largest work of art, but done by unknown artists.

Altitude of photograph 700 km.

Despite earlier criticism by some anthropologists that the Marree Man was completely inaccurate, or a pastiche of elements from different tribal areas, it now seems that it is in fact a highly accurate image of a tribal Aboriginal hunting wallabies. Click here to see the newspaper article which first drew attention to this, as well as excerpts and a photograph from the book "The Red Centre" which possibly provided the inspiration for this giant creation. From the location and map given in the book, it can be deduced that "The Red Centre" photo was taken 70km South West of Pukatja (Ernabella) in South Australia, and the hunter is therefore from the Pitjantjatjara tribe in central Australia.
