The next chapter
The next series of mods came about after a rather unfortunate twist of fate. I had been at Kames motorpark for the Club GTi Scottish day in Ayrshire but had left the car at home and traveled in a friends car. After what was a really good day (apart from the weather) we went to collect my car. I had not even been in it 20 minutes when a young guy in a Mk5 Ford Escort lost control of his car on the wet road. The back near side wheel hit the kerb and bunced right off it which caused the rear end to come out right accross our side of the road. I was traveling at about 30mph behind a woman in a Pug 205, with another woman behind me in a Mk3 Ford Fiesta.
The guy in the Escort tried to correct his car but over compensated and went into a spin. As his car spun through 180 degrees, the woman in the 205 made it through the gap between the escort and the kerb on our side of the road. I was next in line, I remember saying "please dont hit my car, please dont" but as fate would have it he came right into me, bounced me off the kerb and stopped me dead. The front of his car had torn right along the drivers wing and into my door.
Once I had come back to my senses, I went to get out of my car and without even thinking I pulled to door handle. What followed had the witnesses in fits of laughter, in true cartoon comedy fasion the door fell to the ground. It had been pulled right off its hinges by the front of the Escort. The Escort finshed facing the wrong way on the opposite side of the road perched on a wall with around an 8 foot drop on the other side. With myself having a no fault claim I could specify where I would like the car to be repaired. One of my friends had just started his own bodyshop so I asked for it to go there.
