BIOGRAPHY FOR WILLIAM F. OSL, JR.

William (Bill) F. Osl, Jr. is Chairman of the Cumberland Board of Supervisors from the 1st  District.

Bill is a native of Albany, New York, and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont.

1. Upon graduation, Bill began his career in Western Electrics management training program in the Winston-Salem, NC manufacturing facility(now closed!). Following various assignments at Corporate Headquarters in New York(now closed!) and a tour of duty at the Kearny, NJ manufacturing facility(now closed!), he joined the Consumer Products unit In 1983 to help lead its first successful turnaround. In 1988, he was appointed to Vice President and CFO for the General Markets Group. He assumed leadership of the Information Management Services Division in 1989 and  Vice President - Multimedia Ventures and Technologies with Lucent in 1994.

Mr. Osl spent 28 years with AT&T and Lucent Technologies.  He is a retired corporate officer and vice president with responsibilities ranging from manufacturing operations, chief financial officer, chief information officer, startup of new businesses and sale of existing operations.  He has successfully managed small and large organizations and teams.  He has served on the Board of Directors for AT&T Consumer Products Ltd., Information Communication Institute of Singapore and Cancer Hope Network.  He currently serves on the board of the New York City Rescue Mission (immediate past President), Cumberland County Public Schools Foundation, Inc.  (Treasurer), Cumberland County Farm Bureau (President), Cumberland County Extension Leadership Council and Blanton & Pleasants, Inc.

He has been recognized by CIO Magazine, Communications Week, Information Week, Computerworld and American Management Society & Carnegie Mellon, as a leading executive in the information management industry.

 Bill intends to use his experience and talent to help shape the future of what he calls "this beautiful rural county."  The challenges of the next few years are great, as the population grows there will be many issues as to schools, zoning, roads, revenue sources and the services to meet the needs of Cumberland citizens.  He believes his experiences will help Cumberland move forward to meet these challenges while maintaining the beauty and rural character of Cumberland County.

 Bill, his wife Stephanie and their five children have lived in Cumberland County since 1997.  He and his wife are owners/operators of Oakland Farm, which raises beef cattle and they attend Cartersville Baptist Church.
