FATHER KNOWS BEST

Father Knows Best

A popular refrain of those in and out of the UC is that we can't go back to the 1950s TV shows that portrayed stay-at-home moms. One encyclopedia had a picture from one of those shows where the family is sitting around the kitchen table and everyone is focused on the father who has a newspaper. The caption with the picture said, "During the 1950s several American television shows portrayed an idealized middle-class family consisting of a wise breadwinner father, a cheerful and attractive wife, and socially and academically successful children. American actor Robert Young, who starred as Jim Anderson in the series "Father Knows Best," epitomized the role of all-knowing, morally superior husband and father. Here, Anderson is seen surrounded by his loving family, who expectantly await his interpretation of the world as symbolized by the newspaper story he reads."

Leave It To Beaver -- The CleaversThe tone and intent of this commentary is that this was not and should not be reality. The truth is that there should be 12 children around the table and the father leads them in devotions like many Fathers did a century ago. How about some of those 12 children be adopted from Africa and Korea? How about a show where men pray together and women make quilts together as the elder women teach the younger about obedience to her husband? Do not listen to UC members, old or young, who put down shows like Leave itLeave It To Beaver -- The Cleavers to Beaver and say women cannot be June Cleaver (Theme Song  June and Ward). Don't listen to Unificationists say patriarchy just means men that men act like Archie Bunker and are misogynist dominators who only want their suffering women as slaves, sex objects and always to be stupid, barefoot, pregnant doormats.

Archie and Edith Bunker

When you hear UC sisters say things like this, check to see if they have 12 children. When you hear UC brothers criticize the old-fashioned families, check to see if they have a successful career and are caring for a happy wife and 12 or so children. Do those who criticize the Andelins and Ozzie and Harriet have many spiritual children they have witnessed to and raise up every year? Are critics of patriarchy building a growing church where you see many new faces each week hearing the DP and changing their lives? I promise you that you will never see this because only men and women who truly live by the values God has revealed through such writers as the Andelins are building a growing movement.

ISLAM

Another argument against Andelins is the charge that it is a slippery slope to the religious state of Muslim countries that make women wear veils and are beaten for the slightest offense. Do not let UC members or anyone else scare you with this tactic. The Andelins are not teaching Islam but Christianity. I am not advocating some return to the nostalgic good old days. I am saying that we should take the good our ancestors had and reject the bad.

MORMONS ARE WINNING -- UC IS LOSING

Leave It To Beaver -- The CleaversThe UC is a pathetic movement compared with Andelin's movement. The Mormons may have goofy ideas about a lot of things, but they understand completely that women do not hold leadership over men in their homes and in their church. They have brought in millions of members while the UC has brought in hundreds. When leaders like Nancy Hanna have the humility to listen to God speaking through the Andelins then they can go beyond the Andelins and convert them. It is very difficult for pioneers to be humble. Leaders in the UC want statues of themselves and are probably not interested in exploring the world of humility. If you are a long time leader or elder in the UC and reading this I ask you to pray about this. Have ears to hear. God is trying to talk to you about absolute values.

OX

Leave It To Beaver -- The CleaversFrederick Winslow Taylor has been called "the most influential business guru of the 20th century." He is the father of Taylorism, of "scientific management," of the time-and-motion studies. He once said many years ago, "Now one of the first requirements for a man who is fit to handle pig iron as a regular occupation is that he shall be so stupid and so phlegmatic that he more nearly resembles in his mental makeup the ox than any other type." Taylor was wrong about people being oxen. Peter Drucker knows better. He knows that people are complex, fragile, quirky, creative human creatures.

Leave It To Beaver -- The Cleavers

Organizations should be more like organisms than machines. Most businesses and organizations still don't know that there has been a revolution in thought and they are not adapting to reality. They tinker around the edges, but never tune into the success forces of the universe. Before the 20th century there were only two organizations -- religions and the armies of kings.

UC SHOULD NOT BE AN ARMY

The UC is still into thinking it is an Army. It never should have been one. If it had treated people with respect it would rule the world now instead of being an obvious failure to everyone. Iron authority has its place in the Marine Corps but in religion and business it is old hat. We live in a fast-moving, competitive world and need to be adaptive and creative. We need to focus on clearly written and shared values and goals that will inspire people to jump up out of their bed every morning and work like crazy all day with joy. The UC needs to be logical and effective. It needs to fundamentally change. Our primary values should be centered on the Biblical family instead of the feminist families of the UC who delude themselves into thinking they are pioneering something new when they are just making their teacher, Betty Friedan, very happy. Our most important job is to articulate the truth. You will not find anything about the patriarchal family in Pak and Wilson's book, True Family Values. They leave the door open for women to be leaders over men. Somehow there are supposed to be some families where men are very feminine and women are masculine and can therefore complement each other in some perverse way. This is spiritual bullshit.

True leaders in American businesses and other organizations are beginning to wake up to the exciting and profound transition we are going through and beginning to make the change from treating people like oxen and denying their humanity (as happened in the MFT). Henry Ford wanted "the reduction of the necessity for thought on the part of the worker." Now we have GE's Jack Welch who fires managers who, even though they bring results, can't live the company's values. If the UC wants to be the greatest champion of all religions they are going to have to play like the Nebraska Huskers football team instead of like South Dakota State.

NO SALARY

The Mormons have power because the leadership is only men who do not take a salary from the church. They pay their own way. They don't have some poor schmuck fundraising for them so they can have thousands in their American Express card. They were successful financially and then took on leadership as unpaid service. Then those men should have been successful in a career and earned enough money to live on while they take on the duties of leadership in the church.

The same should exist in the UC. Only men should lead instead of having some women lead like Catherine Ono. Mrs. Ono said in a UNews article in 1994 that Father told sisters to be U.S. Senators. Tragically, Father's words have encouraged many sisters to work outside the home and for some to assume leadership over men.

Women should stay home and meet with other women in their homes and do a Titus 2 ministry. Combine that lifestyle with the logic of the DP and we would be unbeatable. Then the Mormons would join. As long as leaders in the UC pollute the UNews and other publications with the goal of women being like Josette Shiner, then we will continue to lose like South Dakota State against Nebraska. When Nebraska plays teams like that the score is around 72 to 3.
