Roman Polanski has directed a number of Classic Cult films, be they awful and campy or disturbing and Satanic.
His personal life, like so much, is at least as strange as fiction itself! Banned from the United States for fleeing a statutory rape charge accrued after the Manson murders, which took their toll on his wife Sharon Tate and their unborn child, he has enjoyed little Hollywood success between Rosemary's Baby and The Ninth Gate.
Oddly enough, one of the Manson murderers, Susan Atkins, spent some time involved with the activities sponsored by the Church of Satan and its founder, Anton LaVey. In a world of "6 degrees of separation" this is noteworthy due to the fact that LaVey also served as a technical advisor and even performed in the role of the devil for Polanski's film, Rosemary's Baby.
Still, after all the infamy his life has crossed paths with, he continues to walk along the path truly less traveled in such films as those noted above. |
