CHAPTER 4 Searching Part 1

Everyone ran to the top of the stairs where they found Hollie next to Claires body. She was lying limp and unconscious. Anna almost fainted while Mira went downstairs to check Claires pulse. Shes still alive, she told the others. Brandi and Toni went white. Brittany had called an ambulance and while they were waiting Brandi told everybody about her dream. Maybe you did see it all and you thought you were dreaming, suggested Michelle. I dont think I can get from the first floor to my bed on the second floor, go to sleep and wake up in a few second. Can you? Brandi almost yelled. The ambulance came and took Claire. Hollie and Celeste followed while the others went to do some shopping.

When Hollie and Celeste got home they filled everyone in on what happened at the hospital. The doctor reckons she fell because it was dark. There was no lights on in the hallway or on the stairs when we got up, said Hollie. Shes got a broken leg and concussion. She has come round but she cant remember a thing that has happened on this holiday, added Celeste. Maybe we should keep it that way until we can figure out what is going on around here, said Brittany.

The next day everyone went to see Claire except for Anna and Toni. They were trying to sort out some paper work for Claires hospital treatment. They were sat in Anna and Celestes bedroom. All the bedrooms are made of wood panelling. The walls behind were brick. The panels above the two doors and the windows were squares while everywhere else was just long panels going from floor to ceiling. The room was quiet except for the two girls looking through all their travel documents. They had a CD on earlier but it had stopped ages ago and neither of them could be bothered to put another one on so the power switched itself off. A faint knocking started from the panelling above the window. The two girls jumped in surprise and immediately looked at the window. There was nothing there and the knocking continued. Toni grabbed a chair while Anna went to lock the bedroom door. What are you gonna do with that? asked Anna. I dont know! What the hell is it? I dont think I want to know. Maybe its a rat or something. Theres only one way to find out. Im not opening that! There could be anything behind there! Im not opening it on my own! Both girls were screaming now. I know, said Toni calming down. Why dont we both get a chair and look together. The knocking continued while Anna got a chair and they both climbed up to the window. They managed to locate the panel the knocking was coming from just before it stopped. Toni touched the panel. It felt quite loose. She wiggled it a bit and the panel came off the wall. Both girls shut their eyes too scared to see what they had found. Anna was the first to open her eyes, and then Toni opened hers. There was a little dark patch among the grey dusty brick. Toni wiped away the dust to reveal a small hole just big enough for an egg to fit in. There was a small object at the back of the hole and Anna got it out. After wiping the thick dust from it Anna held it out. A tiny gold key lay in the palm of her hand. Toni replaced the panel and they went around the house searching for a lock small enough for the key.

They found the key belonged to a small lock fir a door in the cellar. When they opened it up the small room was full of shelves from floor to ceiling stacked with dust covered wine bottles. It was obvious nobody had been down there for years. Out of the corner of her eye, Toni saw something move. Her eyes darted to the place where she saw it. What was that? she asked in alarm but in a whisper. What was what? Anna whispered back. Nothing. I thought I saw something thats all. We should get some decent light bulbs in here. The dim things keep playing tricks on my eyes. I know what you mean, agreed Anna. They heard a door bang at the other side of the house. The others must be back. Come on, lets go. Anna said as she started making her way to the door. Toni followed. They got round to the end of the shelves and they saw a shadow shut the door. The room was then plunged into darkness. The light switch was on the other side of the door, in the cellar. The girls froze for a few minutes and when they were sure they couldnt hear anything they ran through the cellar and up into the kitchen where the sun was shining through all the windows and warmed the place up.

That night, Brandi had another dream

Michelle was lying in her bed fast asleep and the old guy from her last dream came into the room. Cherie was lying in the bed next to Michelles. Both beds were so close yet Cherie could sense nothing. The old guy moved in-between the small gap of the two beds. He put his hands underneath Michelles body. She stirred and the man froze. Once he was sure she was still asleep he picked her up and carried her out of the room, and down the two flights of stairs to the ground floor (her bedroom was on the second floor). The back door in the kitchen swung open on its own and the old guy walked outside with Michelle in his arms. He walked over to the swimming pool and threw Michelle in. Michelle woke up with a start and started thrashing about and screaming. The man jumped in and wadded over to her. He put his hand on her head and held her under the water fir a while. Michelle stopped wriggling and everything went quiet. The man dragged her to the side of the swimming pool and threw her onto the patio. He got out himself then dragged Michelle behind the shed and left her there

Brandi screamed and after a few minutes everybody started to run into the room except for Cherie. Brandi told everybody about the dream. I wouldnt worry about it too much, said Hollie. Michelle is safely tucked away in her bed where she belongs. Just then Cherie can running in out of breath. Michelles gone!
