We hope that you have found our Web Site of interest. As Cub Scouting is 'doing' rather than 'seeing', the only real way to find out about Cub Scouting is to be part of of the action.

1st Mount Waverley is an active, dynamic Pack. We are big enough to have heaps of activities, outings, fun and friendship but small enough to know and care about each individual. (You will be part of the crowd but won't get lost in the crowd) We are always on the lookout for new members to join us. Since you've come to this part of our Web site, you may be wondering how to take part in the adventure, action and excitement of Cub Scouting.

Please select the option that best describes you...

I am thinking about becoming a Cub Scout
I am a parent or guardian considering Cub Scouting for my child
Neither of the above.

Welcome,
if you are 8, 9 or 10 you are the right age to become a Cub Scout.
If you are 11 or older, you can still join Scouting (Scouts 10½ to 15, Venturers 14 to 18, Rovers 18 to 26).
If you are 6 or 7 you can join Joey Scouts (you will go up to Cub Scouts before you turn 8)

Steps to becoming a Cub Scout...

  • You will need your Parents permission to join, so get them to read the parents part of this page. Then ask them to contact one of the Leaders to arrange for you to visit the Pack.

  • On your first visit, we will put you in a Six (a group of about 6 Cub Scouts). One of the older Cub Scouts (called a Sixer) is in charge of the Six and they will look after you.

  • During the first Six weeks you will be a "New Chum". The Leaders and your Sixer will tell you all about Cub Scouting.

  • While you are a "New Chum" you will just wear your normal clothes to Cubs. You will wear a White Scarf which shows that you are learning about Cub Scouting and you can still take part in all the activities and outings with the rest of the Pack.

  • During the first Six weeks the Group Leader and one of the Cub Scout Leaders will organise with your parents to visit and explain Cub Scouting to them.

  • At the end of the first Six weeks you can get your uniform. We will hold a special ceremony where you will be given your Cub Scout badges and group scarf. Hopefully your parents will be able to attend this ceremony.

Steps to your child becoming a Cub Scout...

  • Contact one of the Leaders to arrange a visit to a Pack meeting.

  • On their first visit you will be given a Parents Guide and asked to complete a blue Membership form

  • For approximately six weeks he/she will be known as a "New Chum" and have no uniform except for a white scarf which he/she wears. This period enables a new member to learn about Scouting and make up their mind if they want to join or not. Nearly every child that starts as a new chum wants to continue as a Cub Scout once they see how much fun the Cubs are having.

  • During the first Six weeks the Group Leader and one of the Cub Scout Leaders arrange a visit to explain what Scouting is all about, discuss the contents of the "Parents Guide" and answer any questions that you may have.

  • After about Six weeks, Once your child has decided that he/she wishes become a Cub Scout, the Membership form has been completed, the joining fee paid and you have obtained a uniform for your child, we will hold a special ceremony where your child will be given their Cub Scout badges and group scarf.
We try to arrange the timing of the ceremony to fit in with you as most new members like to have their parents present. Some new members even invite other friends and relatives too.
