| A Nerd's Guide to
Wollongong
Games Workshop
The staff make an outsider nerd feel as though they have come home.
If you enjoy painting, the stench of sweat and spending a lot of money
on cast metal, this is the place for you.
Timezone
Slowly becoming obsolete due to the growing use of home consoles and
mobile phones, Timezone is still a decent place for nerds to waste money
challenging each other to feats of virtual strength, driving and mortal
combat.
The Guild
Wollongong Uni's gaming club. A group of talented and well-adjusted
individuals who happen to enjoy pretending to be muscular babarians
and Orcish hackers.
Video Ezy Wollongong
They have a bunch of anime, Doctor Who, Star Trek and other nerd movies
like Eraserhead, Bladerunner, Dark Crystal, Back to the Future and Deep
Throat.
Phantom Zone
The only place in town to buy a range of comics at the time they are
released. They also infrequently get in new roleplaying stuff, merchandise,
posters, etc. Generally they can order this stuff in for you, but be
prepared to pay extra for certain items.
Cyberelectric
Now Catchnet. They have LAN games on Thrsday nights. Boomerang Software
has this stuff too. Be prepared for the smell of geeks creaming in their
pants over graphics and assault weaponry.
IGS
The other roleplaying club that meets at Smith's Hill High. They are
generally younger and more exuberant than those at the Guild. Note that
Richard Crookall is now President of both clubs...
Richard Crookall
Avoid him like the plague.
