| CLOTHING Japanese women's fashion incorporates a lot of short skirts, matched up with boots [I suspect it's a height issue] or platform shoes and huge push-down socks [again, I think it's a height issue]. After seeing a lot of Japanese street fashion, it seems to me that bright colours and provocative clothing are the go, especially in Harajuku, the place to see the fashion of outgoing people. Then again, read the cover of "egg" magazine here. I think it says it all. GANGURO A scary trend that is taking off in Japan is the Ganguro Style. According to sources, it is a way that Japanese girls can emulate Black American stars like Lauryn Hill, Janet Jackson etc. What it means is that there are scores of young women going to tanning salons to get dark tans and an excessive use of peroxide in their hair: SCHOOL GIRLS Apart from Ganguro, there seems to be a disturbing obsession amongst the Japanese with Schoolgirl uniforms. I won't even go there. MAKE-UP Now here's where it can get a little scary, especially on very tanned faces. That's where you'd probably find copious amounts of white eyeliner. I don't get it, when people use that much white eyeliner, the resemblence to circus entertainers frightens me way too much! ~~> Mascara, pastel eyeshadow and lip gloss seem to be the staple among the better dressed [it's even popular with Japanese schoolgirls - I've seen with my own eyes]. |
