I Love the Passionfruit...
What can one say about the essence of all that is passionate and fruity?  From my first one...way back in 2001 I think, to my last one this year as Empress, I've enjoyed every one of them.  It's a crazy tradition, and describing doesn't really do it justice.  I went to my first...let's see, it was after an illegal interhall sleepover with Keara, Clara, and Kit's hall.  I was devirginized by Owen, one of the coolest guys on the planet.  This I know, though I never got the chance to know him very well.  A quick sum-up of what Passionfruit is, for all you wayward wanderers who may come across this site:  Passionfruit is a tradition, started at Carlisle, sweet Carlisle, I believe, but it has since spread.  You get up at an obscene hour of the morning (7 for the 2 Sundays, 6 for the last Friday) find an open grassy area (lower quad at Carlisle), sit in a circle and take turns toasting.  That is, you bring a drink, preferably fruity, and, one by one, you stand up and salute things that make you happy.  Your class, tech crew, Nick Hudac, whatever.  It sounds silly, and in a way it is.  But most traditions are.

Devirginizations: If you've never been to Passionfruit before, you are a Passionfruit virgin.  So, the folks in charge (the Emperor and Empress) think of something you can do as a sort of initiation.  NOT HAZING (in case any RAs are watching.)  You don't have to do anything, but it's kinda of a bummer if you back out, because the devirginization is one of the things that everyone at Passionfruit has in common.  And it tends to be harmless and mostly painless anyway.  Take a look at a partial list of my and my emperor Greg's
devirginization ideas, which we put into action at CTY Carlisle 2003 second session.
I've been to...maybe 10, yeah, I think 10 Passionfruits.  Lots of things have changed...but many have not.  Check out an interesting sampling of my toasts:
The First (I think), and The Last.
Carlisle, Session 2, 2001: The Last Friday
Carlisle, Session 2, 2003: My Last Friday

And to CTY, which, believe it or not, has really had a lot to do with the person I am today...which is either a good thing or not.  It's given me what I needed to outgrow it...or it's outgrown me.  I leave you with a quote someone I once knew wrote in my memory book:  "Keep CTY going in the form in which I fashioned it."
I love CTY, I love all of you, and I love the Passionfruit
