Project Title:
A model for the Assessment of the Health Status of African-American
in the State of Connecticut
Project Goal: To produce a comprehensive report that will highlight the Health Status of the
African American Community in the State of Connecticut

Project Budget: $ 84,000.00
Blue Ribbon Committee role: This committee membership will serve as advisors for the project/study.
Project Scope:
Many U.S. population groups - including racial and ethnic minority specifically African Americans and others are experiencing a disproportionately high burden of disease and mortality. Uncovering these health issues in the State of Connecticut relative to American Americans is the main goal of the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches- Health Committee.
We would like the study to be conducted by an individual/group with expertise in health disparity research, public health principles, and health services research. The objectives of the Connecticut State Conference of NAACP Branches- Health Committee are:
I. To produce a report that documents the current health status of African Americans in the State of Connecticut.
II. To review the underlying issues that contribute to the current health status challenges and
III. To develop a set of recommendations based on the drivers of health status that positively impact changes both short and long term.

Project Evaluation: The NAACP Blue Ribbon committee will evaluate the study with respect to:
1. Research: How well does the work plan advance scientific understanding of the causes and methods to reduce and ultimately eliminate the disproportionate burden of disease among African Americans in the State of Connecticut.
2. Community Impact: How adequately does the report support the need for dissemination and applications of research findings to reduce and ultimately eliminate health disparities.
