CTCA TIPS: November 2008

NOVEMBER MEETING: Thursday, November 6th. @ 7:00pm @ Heather Kenny’s house at 2721 Beacon Dr.

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY UPDATE

We are in the process of collecting information for our new telephone directory.  If you are new (within the past two years) to Cornwall Terrace or Western Meadows and wish to be added to our community directory, please contact Beverly Piscitelli @ 610-670-1009 or email [email protected] with your name, address and telephone number.  Over the summer months, your Block Captain should have been around to verify your information.

SPREAD THANKSGIVING CHEER!

Look inside this month’s TIPS for the details on our annual Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets. Join your neighbors in helping others in need—in the past we have provided 30+ families with the items for a complete Thanksgiving Dinner by each of us donating a very small part.

DAILY LOTTERY FOR FEBRUARY

The CTCA would like to thank Beverly Piscatelli for 8 straight years of running our big fundraiser, the Daily Lottery.   Beverly has done a wonderful job making this a big success.   Funds raised through this event have been a big reason why we are able to continue offering such great events for the Association.

THANK YOU BEVERLY for you all of your work for the CTCA!

This year Cindy Zimmerman and Jeanne Bartlett will be co-chairs for this event.   The event will run exactly as it has under Beverly’s leadership.  Here is how it will work:

Each Block Captain will be given 50 tickets to sell for $5.00 each.  The tickets will be distributed to the block captains by December 12.

Winnings for straight numbers, based on the Pennsylvania Daily Lottery 7:00 PM drawing will be awarded as follows:

$75.00 for weekday (Monday through Friday)

$100.00 for weekend (Saturday or Sunday)

Please contact your block captain if you are interested in selling any tickets outside the community such as co-workers, relatives and friends.   They will make great Christmas stocking stuffers!

Thank you and Good Luck!!!

SUNSHINE NEWS

Jessica & Dwayne Knott at 217 Shakespeare Dr. had a baby girl, named Amelia, in the spring (March 18th).  Amelia is growing and developing her own personality!  You might see mom pushing Amelia in the stroller around the neighborhood on a nice day!

Laura & Daryl Bond of 2619 Tennyson welcomed a baby boy on October 8th. Michael William weighed in at 7 lb 15 oz and 20 ½” long. Congratulations on your first baby!!!

The VanOstenbridge family at 216 Bard Ave welcomes their newest addition - Naomi Josephine.  She joined the family 7/28 at 4:58 pm and has been particularly well received by her older brother, Matthew (aka "Matty"), who shares with her lots of hugs and kisses (and coughs and sneezes....).  The family cat, Moo, also warmly welcomes the new baby.  Much to her dismay, however, Naomi finds he is most warm when he chooses to nap on her instead of on the couch.

Flowers were sent to Charles Rudasill of Whittier Ave. who is now home recuperating after a hospitalization. We wish you a speedy recovery!!

Flowers were sent to Mark Chelius of Keats Dr. who was recently hospitalized. Please keep Mark and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

New neighbors!

In August, Tony & Barbara DeLeon and family moved to 228 Shakespeare Dr.  A year ago, they moved from Connecticut to the Muhlenberg area where they resided with relatives.  After exploring Berks County, they  decided to settle in Spring Township!  Tony travels a half mile away to the office where he works for United Disability Services.  Barbara is an aide in the special education class at West Wyomissing Elementary school.  Children David, age 11 yrs, and Sarah, age 9yrs, participated in the CT's summer playground.  Both attend Cornwall Terrace Elementary and are involved with travel soccer teams. Welcome the DeLeon family!

Thanks again to all who keep me informed of new neighbors, family additions and those in need of “sunshine wishes”. Please contact Anne Larky at 610-927-0820 or email at [email protected] with all Sunshine News!!

THANKSGIVING DINNER BASKETS

(Co-chaired by Brenda Daelhousen ph# 610-678-1660 & Kathryn Tegan ph# 610-678-4144)

Note several changes this year!!!

CTCA will again provide food baskets for needy families in Berks County. However, there are several changes—the major one is that instead of giving an actual frozen turkey, the recipient families will use a $10-Gift Certificate from a major grocery store to purchase their turkey. So, please do not donate actual turkeys.

We are asking each home to donate a specific food item (see street list below—there are some changes) plus $2.00 that will be used to purchase the Gift Certificates. (If you wish to write a check for a larger amount, make it payable to CTCA.) Thank you for your generosity in this project!

Neighbors: Please give your donations to your block captains by 9:00 pm Thurs., Nov. 13th. Food items are paired for equal cost. Our aim is a variety of food for a family of 4-5 people—please provide small package-sizes as specified—there is limited space in the packing boxes we use. Block Captain list follows.

THANKSGIVING DINNER BASKETS (CONT’D)

Block Captains: On or near weekend of Nov. 1st, I’ll be bringing you a Thanksgiving Basket Donation Box—please place near your front door to collect donations (bring it inside overnight). Please return the Box with the collected food and money to Kathryn Tegan @ 209 Keats Ave. on Sun., Nov. 16th between 4-10 p.m. Please call one of us if you need a different time or have any questions.

Extra help is needed: on Mon., Nov. 17th to help organize/pack boxes at 3-5 pm & shop for extra food at 7:30 pm; and to deliver dinners to the Salvation Army on Mon. a.m., Nov. 24th before Noon (need spacious car/vans). If you can help, please call Brenda or Kathryn now!
