JANUARY MEETING:  Wednesday, January 7th @7:00 P.M. at Cindy Arters's house at 137 Bradley Ave.

*PLEASE NOTE: Different day this month. .

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY UPDATE

The directory will be going to print in January.  Thank you to the block captains for gathering the information and to Anne Larky for her computer skills. The winners of our art work for the directory are Andrew Santoro (Age 5) and Jessica Reichart (Age 8).  They each received a $25.00 gift card to "Toys for Us."  Congratulations!

NEW FAMILIES

Where are you????  We take great pride in our wonderful community association and need you now to keep this organization active. Come join us for our sociable monthly meeting and get to know your neighbors. If you cannot join us, then volunteer to help with an event. My intention is to compile a list of names that we can call on for help. If you could possibly give some of your time, then please email Bev Piscitelli, [email protected] so that I could add your name to our call list.  Since there are close to 400 families in our amiable community, I am optimistic that there are some of you out there willing to give us a helping hand. Don't be shy. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We look forward to meeting or hearing from you.

BLOCK CAPTAINS NEEDED

Thank you very much to Rob Santoro, Connie Hoffman and Linda Spoonhoward for their many years of volunteering their time. We need captains for Upper Tennyson, Temple Drive, 200-300 blocks of Bard and 100 block of Spohn Road. This is a very rewarding opportunity for you to take an active role in our community.  If interested please contact Bev Piscitelli 610-670-1009 or email [email protected].

Here is a list of Block Captain responsibilities:

1. As part of the Sunshine Committee, you notify the Sunshine Chairperson (Anne Larky 610-927-0820) of any new neighbors, hospitalizations, obituaries and birth announcements.

2. Ask your neighbors to support our fundraisers- Daily Lottery in February and Kauffman's Chicken Barbecue in May.

3. Donations for Thanksgiving Baskets.

4. Update community telephone directory every three years.

DAILY LOTTERY FUNDRAISER FOR FEBRUARY

Lottery time is just around the corner!  We will be distributing the tickets to the block captains by Saturday December 13.  Due to block captain openings, we are looking for two volunteers to sell tickets this year – one for Temple Drive and one for Bard Avenue.   If you have a few spare hours over the course of December and January and can help please call Jeanne or Cindy to volunteer.

The block captains on your street will be coming around to sell the tickets.  If your street does not have a block captain and you would like to purchase a ticket, you can call Cindy Zimmerman or Jeanne Bartlett to purchase tickets.

The lottery will be held during the month of February.   The cost is $5.00 per ticket.  Winnings for straight numbers, based on the 7:00 PM Pennsylvania Daily Lottery, will be awarded $75.00 for weekdays and $100.00 for weekends.

Buy more than one ticket and increase your chances to win!  Sell them to your co-workers, neighbors, relatives and friends.   They make great stocking stuffers.  Don’t forget to purchase your tickets and GOOD LUCK.

Hello CTCA neighbors and friends!

My name is Ben Chapin and I am senior at Wilson High School.  End of January, I will be traveling with a group of Wilson students to Jamaica on a marine biology and humanitarian trip.  Headed by Doug Dahms and Susie Olson, this life and learning experience has been offered to Wilson students for the past 14-15 years.

Some of you in the community may be familiar with this trip and/or have had children participate.  The

school trip is three-fold.  The first part is the marine biology study and exploration, the second is the humanitarian aid provided, and the third part is an immersion in the culture of a third-world country.

During our 9-day stay we will visit a local infirmary (our equivalent of a poor house nursing home) with approximately 150 patients who are in need of small items.  These people will probably spend their entire lives here in conditions which are extremely modest to say the least.  The staff is also poor (earn approx. $40-60 a month!) so we provide for them and their families as well.

Why am I telling you this?  I have lived all 17 years of my life in Cornwall Terrace!   Many of you know my family members, me or just my mom.  This community has always volunteered their time and talent to benefit not only the children of CT through the playground facilities and numerous activities, but has also served others in the Reading area.  You are a member of our caring Wilson community too.   Now I am asking YOU to make a difference for someone in a third world country through a contribution of kindness.

In years past, the group has taken toiletries, medical supplies, clothing, crackers, breakfast bars, watches, radios, flashlights, batteries, children's school supplies, and more!  Last year, monetary donations alone provided enough toiletries to pack a 20-gallon plastic "hygiene" bag (toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, lotion, shampoo, hand sanitizer, deodorant, band aides, and a watch) for over 150 people!  Times are tough for many, but despite our economy, most of us still have a LOT for which to be thankful.

PLEASE consider donating an item or two to share with a third-world person and/or family.

All donations are to be received by January 20, 2009.  A "collection box" will be located outside my house

at 221 Shakespeare Drive.  Contact Ben or Beth Chapin at 610.670.9152 with any questions.  Remember that

the smallest of things can make a difference to others.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated and the

Jamaican people will appreciate your gifts.

Thank you!

Ben Chapin
