Character Animation 2: Motion Study According to a seminar "Game on" which I have been participate in a few months ago, a spoke man from a 3D game company called "Act 3 animation" mentioned that most of the technique that they use to animate their character is mainly "key frame animation" because it is a lot simple to change or exaggerate the action while the motion capture of the character may make a difficulty in changing the characters' action if it is proof undesirable. Inspire by this theory, I decide to make the research of the motion by simply using the digital VDO camera to capture my own action just to give me an idea of the speed of each movement my character will be made. Because I don't have my own Motion Capture equipement (I will have my own only when I become a rich man!) I intend to keep all the my action clips for the technique of "rotoscope" by putting any chosen action for as the background within the interface and make the character mimicing the movement along with my action from the VDO clip. However I decided that it may make the process of the animating become kind of messy due to the timeline of my action and the timeline of the scene that I will make may not match up with each other. But I still can keep all my VDO clip actions as the referrence for the action of my character. |

| From the animation gift sample at the left demonstrate the speed of the movement when the character is running, which should take less than a second. Also if you notice carefully, you will see that both of my feet will be lifted above down ground as I am running. | ||||||||||||

The 2 2D gift animations above were extracted from my VDO referrence of me acting in variety of fighting move, using as the visual referrence for the ultraman's action. There are also some other useful action scenes that I could use to give my self an idea of how my character is going to move etc. Nevertheless, because this movie also involve with some fantasy stuff and my character also not a real person, I am also able to exaggerate his action like making him do an incredible somersault in the air or even fly. |
