The Reality about Germans:
(As I see it)
Germans come in all kind of Colors and Shades. The majority (I think) has brownish hair. Along the Rivers and the further North you go you find more and more blond people. Why? The Norse-Vikings of course! They raided every European Country following the River streams, where they sometimes settled and married local woman. Blond hair however is not a dominating genetic factor. So over the centuries you find less blond people and the Celtic and Caucasian original of the population of Germany is visually getting again more dominant. The only reminder of the Vikings is the height of the people in Europe, who are getting taller and taller.
A German School with 51 Nationalities. When I went to school there were 5 different Nationalities in one class.
6 feet is now very common under the young boys and girls in Germany. In case you are stationed in Germany and want to go to a concert, dont forget to take a ladder with you, to see the Stage. Other Germans are those of Italian, Turkish, Polish, Greek, American, African, Arab and Chinese decent. Again I wrote them down from the biggest population to the smallest. Leaving out all the smaller groups, such as from France, Russia and so on. Europe was and is a melting pot and Germany is right in the middle. Throughout history and wars there were traders and conquerors that left there genetic fingerprint in the whirlpool of Europe.
Now what about the Lederhosen and Dirndl? Sorry, these you will find only in Bavaria and to special occasions as Folk fests, Weddings, Sunday Church. You have a better chance to see somebody wearing a Dirndl in Upstate New York at the German Heritage October fest then in complete Germany throughout the year.
What about the warm beer at Breakfast? Perhaps, when you run into a homeless Gentlemen, who has warm beer instead of Breakfast. You do not drink Beer or any other alcoholic Beverage before Noon and then only a glass or two (in Bavaria perhaps more) with Lunch. Certainly the beer will not be warm. The Austrians, Germans or Polish (not quite sure) invented the Beer-Stein to keep it cold during the summer! You find warm Ale only in an Irish Pub in Germany or directly in Ireland and England. My grandfather however likes warm beer, because cold beer hurts his stomach.
What about the famous Autobahn? The first one really went north to south, but in the meantime (since the 30s) it is a widespread Autobahn-Network that connects to the Autobahns and Highways of the other European countries who border to Germany. Yes there are parts of the Autobahn, were you can drive as fast as your car can go. Germans are very aggressive Drivers, so if you are just for a short time in Germany, just take a Bus, taxi or train and dont risk your life, trying to survive on the Streets and Autobahns of Germany.
