"Finding Structure & Movement in the Standard" by: Cheryl Anderson
Our seminar speaker, Cheryl Anderson of Oregon, has been breeding Shelties for 38 years under the Cherden prefix, having had a prior college background in genetics and comparative evolution. With a very limited program she has produced a top ROM, ROMC sire and several specialty and group winning dogs over the years. She has also judged for AKC since 1984, for CKC since last year, and for ASCA since 1978 as she also judges Collies & Australian Shepherds in addition to Shelties.
As a member of the Northwest Dog Judges Study Group she had an instrumental part in developing the first Form Follows Function format for seminars later popularly adopted by many other groups, including the AKC Institutes.
Her seminars are listed in the AKC Gazette and have been given all over the USA and western Canada for several years now. She has put on a multitude of programs for judges education over the years. The portions of her seminars concerning the nuances of interpretations of the Standard and the analysis of functional power train structure will be given at our CSSA this year. It will cover recognition of both virtues and problem areas in our breed for rating evaluation, a skill needed in both breeding and judging decisions.
