Directions to Clear Creek
Note: Due to construction on I-485, the directions obtained from online services, such as MapQuest and MSN Maps are NOT always accurate. Use these directions to Clear Creek, from Providence Road (NC-16) and I-485:
Use Before November 19, 2003:
Take I-485 east (towards Mint Hill)
Go almost 10 miles
Take exit 47 (Lawyers Road)
At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Lawyers Road
Turn IMMEDIATELY left onto Allen Black Road
Go 2.2 miles (be careful: sharp turns in the Road)
Allen Black Road changes names to Brief Road at the stop sign at Highway 218 - proceed straight
Go another 4.5 miles to Black Road
Turn left onto Black Road
Go approximately 1 mile
Clear Creek Scout Camp entrance will be on your right
Use After November 19, 2003:
Take I-485 east (towards Mint Hill)
Go about 12 miles
Take exit 49 or 50 (NC Highway 218, Fairview Road)
At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto NC-218/Fairview Road
Turn IMMEDIATELY left onto Brief Road
Go another 4.5 miles to Black Road
Turn left onto Black Road
Go approximately 1 mile
Clear Creek Scout Camp entrance will be on your right
Going Camping? - What to Bring
The following are lists of items you might bring camping. Most Cub Scout camping is family friendly - almost a picnic with tents, your car is never too far away from the camp site - so you probably won't need everything listed below.
Personal Items
Sleeping bag or 2 or 3 blankets, and pillow
Clear Creek has tents with cots, so bring a tent, ground cloth and sleeping pad only if you want to try roughing it
Cots are sometimes slick, so consider bringing a fitted or plain sheet in addition to sleeping bag
Flashlight and batteries
Clothing, and extra clothing (in case you fall into mud, lake, rain, etc.)
Uniform (class A for formal events, class B for others)
Swimsuit (Clear Creek has a pool)
Sun protection, hat, and/or sunglasses
Gloves
Rain gear
Water bottle
Pocketknife AND Whittling Chip card (boys cannot bring and use knives without the card)
Folding chair
Trail food or snacks
Eating utensils (cup, bowl, plate, spoon, fork, knife)
Soap, washcloth and towel
Toothbrush, toothpaste and floss
Comb or brush
Camera, film and batteries
Notebook and pencil/pen
Mountain bike and helmet
Musical instrument (Jeff can't play, but might bring a guitar anyway!)
Please DO NOT bring personal electronic games, radios, TVs, etc.
Please DO NOT bring pets
Den Items
First aid kit (at least one per den)
Cell phone for emergencies
Matches and/or fire starters
Plastic trash bags
Flags: American, pack and/or den
Lanterns and fuel
Tarp, dining area cover (available from Clear Creek)
Camp stoves and fuel
Coffee pot, coffee, sugar and creamer
Pots, pans and Dutch ovens
Cooking spatulas, spoons, tongs
Sponges, dishcloths, dish soap, scouring pads
Food and drink for the entire den
Disposable plates and eating utensils
Map and compass
