Another big thing that came to town was around 1951. It was the box with a picture on it better known as the TV set. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Long had the first and also Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swanson that lived east of Magnet. Then Jug Henrickson and Floyd Dawson. What a remarkabIe thing it was. It wasn't long everyone had one. Now in 1976, sometime we wish we never heard of a TV with some of the violent programs they put on. All in all it is a great invention.

Nebraska Community Improvement .Program was set up in Febr. 1976 for our town. With all the improvements that each family had done at their own places is a start on our program. More improvements for the town are cleaning up the park, and putting in new picnic tables and building a new shelter house. A new baseball field is being moved and improved for the baseball league. Also the cemetery is rocking the driveway through the cemetery with white rock.

The Bi-Centennial Committee and the Magnet community has improved the main street square with a flower planter and the three flag poles carrying the United States, Nebraska and the Bi-Centennial flags. This improvement is one of the 1976 Bi-Centennial project. May 8, 1976 a parade, a flag raising ceremony and an appreciation day along with a barbecue was Magnets big day and also saying thank you for all those who have helped in any way after the tornado.

This town has failed much over the years. Loosing businesses and people leaving to fine better work. But here we still find a very strong town. They have their ups and downs but who doesn't. This town of Magnet has been through a lot with fires, depression, and storms. It always comes back standing on its feet. Why? Our faith in God and the support and encouragement they give to one another. This town will continue on and on. Now in this Bi-Centennial year as we celebrate our Country's 200th birthday and our towns 83rd birthday we look forward to this year and many years of progress. We in this town and community are very proud to be part of this Country and of this community. Hope we can continue on here for another 100 years. We are a town that is "too tough to die".
