Part 11 (June 20th) - Page 2
Still no action from Artemisia, so John and Carol headed back up the path to watch Riverside erupt. Although we missed it’s opening number, Riverside put on a long, great show.
When Riverside finished, we returned to Artemisia, where the conversation had evolved to whether the wait was worth its notable feature: before it erupts, you can hear a great thumping sound and feel the earth shake! Finally, after more waiting, with it seriously overdue, we noticed that it was bubbling differently. Is that good or bad, we wonder?

All of a sudden the other Matt started running down the bank overlooking the geyser and shouted "THIS
  IS IT!"

And sure enough, we felt the earth shake and heard the

THUMP,

THUMP,

THUMP!!

Carol got closer and sat on the ground to get her money’s worth for the long wait, while John tried to take some pictures in the dense, swirling, steamy fog.
Artemisia put on a great display, spurting as much as 15 feet into the air, and pushing out so much water that waves about a foot high were surging over the edge of the pool 30 feet from the center.
So much steam and spray!
After being drenched and emptying two cameras (hoping they weren’t damaged by the spray), we headed back up Geyser Hill to the Lion Group.
