Maritimes 2001
One of the most interesting trips that I have taken was my travels with my mother around the Maritimes on the east-coast of Canada. We started from Halifax in Nova Scotia, traveled to North Sydney in Cape Breton Island, and took the Ferry "Caribou" to Port aux Basque in Newfoundland.  This province is the foremost eastern point in Canada and lies in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Here you see an old fisherman's home, counting more than two centuries of age.
Everything changes when you come to Newfoundland.  The water, the land, and even the weather take on a different kind of approach.  The water is very cold, the land is rocky, and the weather can change from a beautiful sunny afternoon to a rough stormy day in a short moment.
This is a good example of how rocky a coast can be in Newfoundland.  This picture was taken on the way to St. Anthony, on the west coast.
A great place to visit near St. Anthony on the northern tip of the Island is the historical site of L'anse aux Meadows.  Over a thousand years ago, Eric and the Vikings lived and hunted in this area.
