When planning for a trip at the length of five weeks, we thought camping was the most logical way for us to go.  Since we had great weather most at the time, we chose to spend the nights in tents at qualified camping areas.  Not only did we control spending that way and freed some money up for other things like boat and city tours, but we also had great fun cooking and relaxing at great campgrounds near the ocean.  The most wonderful place we have spent time was the privately owned MacLeod's Campground at Cape Breton Island.  There we had access to a great beach directly at the Gulf of St. Lawrence, used nice clean facilities, and experienced a good time.

We met wonderful people, had a lot of fun, and enjoyed great campfires until the early morning.
