| GENERAL INFORMATION Shito-Ryu karate-do is one of the four major authentic karate syles still being practiced in Japan today. This approach toward martial arts has survived because of its emphasis on time tested traditional values such as respect, self-accountability and a hard work ethic. All classes at CIMA are taught in the spirit of traditional Japanese culture. We believe that this formal setting helps to provide a safe environment in which to practice karate and perpetuates the martial arts tradition. At CIMA, students progress at their own pace. As educators, we recognize that each student's needs and abilities are different. Students are not placed in a set program or on a pre-determined schedule but rather given the information and skills at a pace determined suitable and safe for them by instructors. Student evaluation is solely based on the individual's progress and efforts in the dojo, not on how he or she measures up to his or her peers. We believe that all beginning students start at an equal level and how they meet their martial arts goals after that is entirely up to them and their family support system. Students are not asked to participate in activities that would be physiologically unsafe or biomechanically unsound for them. A student's physical fitness level and ability is taken into account at all times. It is our belief that everyone's optimal fitness level is different but must be achieved in order to practice karate effectively and safely. |
