| The mission of C.I.M.A. is to perpetuate traditional martial arts through quality instruction for students of all ages. We strive to help children and adults become strong, successful individuals by fostering traditional values such as respect, self-discipline, self-accountability and the ability to adhere to a hard work ethic while garnering the additional benefits of physical fitness and personal safety awareness. What does C.I.M.A. teach? C.I.M.A. teaches traditional Japanese Shito Ryu karate. Shito Ryu is one of the four major karate styles still in practice today. Training includes the observance of traditional Japanese etiquette and terminology, kihon (basic techniques), kata (organized routines) and jiyu kumite (free sparring) as well as many practical self-defense applications. Kobudo (the study of weaponry) is also offered at C.I.M.A. as a separate program. Lessons cover traditional Okinawan weapons (bo, sai, tonfa, nunchaku and kama) and are taught in the same spirit as our karate classes. Do I need to speak or understand Japanese? No, not fluently. However, students are exposed to many Japanese karate terms as well as some conversational phrases and are expected to acquire the knowledge to use these terms and phrases over time. Can I go to tournaments? C.I.M.A. does have a team that competes nationwide. However, tournament competition is not a rank requirement for any student. Although C.I.M.A. does not force students to participate in tournament competition, we do believe that the exposure a student receives through participation in sport karate to other practitioners and styles is an asset to his or her own training. We have also found that there is a direct correlation with competitiors and success at the dojo. How much does it cost and how do I pay? Introductory programs are availabe for a set price. Monthly tuition varies depending on the students training program. Tuition payments are handled through a billing company called Easy Pay. These payments can be debited from a checking, savings or credit card account. C.I.M.A. uses this method so that instructors can concentrate on providing quality instruction rather than wasting valuable time acting as a collection agency. There are also standard three and six month cash plans available for students who do not wish to use the Easy Pay service. How do I sign up? If you are interested in karate classes, please feel free to call us toll free at 877-325-9366, email us at [email protected] or simply come visit our dojo in person. Prospective students are welcome to try out an introductory class for free. |
