Childhood Memories

The laughter of childhood
Rings loud in my ears
Promised friends forever
Alas, through the years
We went separate ways
And we both lost touch
Though I've not heard from you
I have missed you much
I've thought of you often
And I've wondered how
You were getting along
What you're doing now
And do you hold as dear
The sweet memories
Of our childhood friendship
So young and so free
The days spent in laughter
And in innocence
Untouched by life's trials
Or its cruel intent
Only two little girls
And make believe games
And a long past era
Now, nothing's the same
But I still remember
The way we were then
And it's my dearest wish
To be so again

Chameleon

You say that you know me
And you think that you do
But the person I am
Is a stranger to you
You see what I show you
And think there is no more
But that's just a fraction
Of what I keep in store
I'm a chameleon
And what you want to see
Is just what I show you
But it's not really me
If I showed you myself
Without any disguise
Would I still look the same
In your judgemental eyes
Or am I accepted
Only if I portray
Your idea of right
Is there no other way
To agin your approval
I have found that there's not
So I'm what you expect
And you think that you've got
Someone in your image
With the same point of view
When the truth of it is
That I'm nothing like you

Heart Smart

Into the depths of my heart
Your cruel words did pierce
The damage nearly fatal
The pain intensely fierce
I thought, for sure, I'd die
Your betrayal...complete
But then I just decided
Not to lay at your feet
I trusted you completely
That was my first mistake
But I never dreamed that you
Would prove yourself a snake
How could you say that to me
Such hateful words as those
We once had something special
We were so very close
But what have you turned into
Some sleazy lady's man
Without any principles
Just taking what you can
The man I loved, lives no more
And the cad that you are
Is just too far beneath me
To cause pain to my heart
Cowardly Hatred

Out of nowhere, a coward's attack
Destroys a country, and innocents die
No possible excuse could ever suffice
And no reason exists save hatred
To retaliate, must be in kind
But though we may have vengeance
We will never have justice
