HOTSPOTS
   DOWNRIVER:
       ROCKWOOD/
          SOUTH ROCKWOOD

NS  STPI, is heading South on Detroit line track one, with a solid blue lash-up! He has just hit the Rockwood Detector on this February Winter day, 2000. NS had just changed the detector only days prior to "NS detector m.p.22.3" Behind the train, and to the left of the Caterpillar tractor, is the Rockwood Base station. This train was almost 1/2 mile away before that NS detector even went off. What a bunch of bull!

ROCKWOOD, and SOUTH ROCKWOOD, are sister cities of the Southern Wayne  county/ Monroe County Border, with terrific railfan photo vantage points! (MAPS at bottom of page) With 2 railroads running through: GTW and NS (former Conrail),  and detectors, trees, bridges, signals, you name it and you'll find it in Rockwood!!! The Huron River is the County border. and you can certainly tell where that is because the roads are a lot rougher (due to lousy maintenance) in Wayne County. NS's Detroit line (chart HERE) and GTW's Shoreline Sub (chart HERE) are the two lines in this area, and both cross the Huon River at the same spot. radio frequencies are as fllows. MAPS area at bottom of page.
GTW                                  NS
160.530  (TD-2 Troy)        160.800 (NS Michigan Line disp)

There is a nice little park on the  Monroe County side of the Huron River, off of  South Huron River Drive. You can park there, have a cook out, use the bathrooms, watch the trains cross the river , and small boats ride underneath. It is a beautiful park!! On North Huron River Drive, in Wyane County on either Conrail main track has the Conrail (now NS) Detectors. Either  recording are on the front page!! And the Rockwood Base station is also located here!  Rockwood is  a fun place for the whole family to enjoy!!
