In 1994, The Crow hit the big screen, bringing a dark and violent tone from an underground comic into the mainstream. Taken from a comic drawn by James O'Barr, The Crow quickly became a cult favorite and big hit with critics everywhere. Brandon Lee, son of martial arts expert Bruce Lee, plays Eric Draven, a young rock guitarist, who, along with his fiancee, Shelly Webster, is murdered on the eve of their marriage day. One year after their death, Eric returns from the grave with the power of a mysterious crow to avenge his and his fiancee's death. After realizing his mission, Eric searches around the city to find all the thugs responsible for his death. After gaining his revenge, with the help of a local cop, played by Ernie Hudson, Eric then returns to the otherworld and can rest peacefully with his loved one. The film is extraordinary, and created 2 sequels. It is a film that creates a fantasy world for people needing a break from everyday real life and captures true love, action, and justice. The movie is very tragic, and, unfortunately, created a tragic moment in movie history when Brandon Lee was accidentally shot while filming. Altogether, this is a one-of-a-kind film that remains among my top favorites. It is a must see for everyone. |
