Blockhouse | Blockhouse Lochry's Blockhouse, "rediscovered" in 2001 at the coal mine patch town of Saint Vincent Shaft near Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The blockhouse dates from 1779-1781. It was constructed as a fortification on the historic Forbes Road. Warfare in western PA between the colonists, Native Americans, French, & English during the early years of this country was sporadic until after the war of 1812. The wood logs are American Chestnut, the wood many of the early buildings & barns were made of in this region. The Blockhouse had been covered with siding and used as a residence in the 1900s. Fire1 | Fire2 | Fire3 Fire in downtown Latrobe, New Years Eve, December 31 1982. The building, on the corner of Ligonier & Depot Streets, contained a radio station. Photos were taken from a distance, at night, using a zoom lens, tripod, shutter release cable, and manually controlling the shutter speed set on bulb. Pure quesswork that resulted in OK exposure on most of the negative frames.
A kayak (Perception Keowee) I bought in 1993. It is a good design for paddling the small lakes & creeks in Westmoreland County, with enough cargo space inside for stowing gear, including enough gear for camping overnite. At 9'2" in length the kayak is maneuverable in tight places such as narrow streams. I added the deck rigging. The paddle is a 230cm Sequel made by AquaBound. My friend Dave in his kayak during a jaunt down the Loyalhanna Creek, April 7 2001.
Rusty, a dog I found as a young stray. We adopted one another. I had him for 15 years, until he died. He was a good friend, and still is.
