July 1999 Update Continued: Other Milestones: 10 Months: Sits by herself 12/13 Months: Commando Crawls 16 Months: Pulls self up to stand 18/19 Months: Walks alongside furniture ("Cruises") 20 Months: Says "Hi" to people. Can say Open, Dada, Baby, Bye Bye (all sound like Dada though), Mama, All Done (Ah Da), Up, Janet, Nice (Ice), Look It, Kitty (Kee)
We're still struggling with getting her to eat table food. She can't "chew" dry type food (crackers, bread, etc.). If it's got too much texture, out it comes!
In March 1999 we started Cameron on Piracetam. This product is commonly referred to as a "smart drug". I can't say if this contributed to some of Cameron's milestones she has reached in the last 4 months, but I do know that it was after she had been taking Piracetam for about 6 weeks that her vocabulary improved and her attention span improved. This is also the time when she begain pulling herself up by herself and standing for much longer periods of time (5 to 10 minutes as opposed to 1 or 2 minutes).
She still does not crawl the normal way. She looks more like a bear: her feet are walking but she has her hands on the floor too. But she likes walking while pushing the red wagon her Grandpa Jack made for her! This is helping her a lot!
September 1999 Update: Cameron is now trying to stand up by herself! She can stand up without help and stays standing for about 5 seconds. She recently (9/19/99) stood up by herself and took 1 step towards the couch. This is so exciting to see!! Especially since she gets even more excited than I!! I'm hoping Cameron will be walking by her 2nd birthday. I realize this may be a bit too optimistic, but with the progress she's making, nothing will surprise me! We have also been swimming for an hour every week. She loves the water! I think by next summer she may be able to swim by herself. Cameron continues to amaze us!
March 2001 Update: Oh boy! A LOT has happened since September 1999!! We had another baby girl May, 2000. Now our family consists of Tony and I (Becky), Courtney who will be 6 this May, Cameron who turned 3 last November, Cassidie who turned 2 this month and Cydney who will be 1 in May. Cameron started walking shortly after she turned 2, and she's hasn't stopped going since then! She hasn't had any problems with her heart. I seem to get a bit anxious whenever it comes time for her annual cardiology appointment. But her heart is in excellent shape and we don't anticipate any problems in the near future. When she turned 3 she graduated from the early intervention program and now attends the San Luis Obispo County pre-school program for kids with developmental disabilities. It is our hope that this will prepare her to attend a "normal" school when she starts kindergarten. A school bus picks her up every morning at our house, and then brings her home every afternoon. She's leaves around 8 and gets home around 1. This may sound like it's too much for a 3 year old, but she's doing great and loves going to school. We're still struggling with her inability to chew food. Her diet consists of baby food, yogurt, apple sauce, and pasta. Anything that doesn't have too much texture in it she's ok with. Mash potatoes for some reason, she can't handle. Thankfully though she recently began receiving Oral Motor therapy at home by someone who is trained in Debra Beckman's oral-motor techniques. We haven't seen much change yet, but I'm anticipating this to be a long, time consuming process for us. I'm slowly starting to work on potty training Cameron. She's gone a few times for us, and she's gone once or twice at school. I see this as another "project" that is going to take lots of time and patience. Cameron is still taking NuTriVene-D as well as Piracetam. I truly believe these have a positive effect on her. When I stop giving her the Piracetam I notice some changes in her behavior. The skeptics may argue with me but when I have others tell me how she's improved in certain areas I know what it's from. I never give Cameron the Piracetam without the NuTriVene-D Daily supplement. If I run out of the Daily Supplement than she doesn't get the Piracetam. They work together. Click HERE for more information on NuTriVene-D and Piracetam. When you get to this website open the SUPPLEMENTS folder. This is a very helpful website.
