So, what's this band all about? The Crosstalk Club is a new band from Ocean County, NJ. For the moment the band is mostly a recording project with only sporadic live shows, though that will change after this CD is finished. I got the "recording bug" again when I was asked to autograph (!) an old CD with one of my songs. I thought it was time to let my newest odd creations see daylight. What happened to "EXIT 82"? I actually liked the name -- it's the Garden State Parkway exit for Seaside Heights, my former home town and inspiration for a lot of my songs. People criticized it for being too much like the 300 new NJ "exit" bands or the million or so "word-number" bands (Blink 182, etc.). So it was time to get off the Parkway, so to speak. Who's in the band? Local artists and friends will "guest star" on the various tracks. A number of players are already lined up and more to follow. (Profiles will be posted when they're available.) We'll see what happens if this band decides to stick together. What style of music? Rock-pop-a-palooza. Solid melodies with edgy guitars, keys, and an occasional dash of humor. I've been told: "The Ramones, Barenaked Ladies, and Ben Folds get together to write the next Cheap Trick album;" "Modern Billy Joel songs with lyrics by Gary Larson;" and "Steals a move or two from the Barenaked Ladies and Morrissey playbooks, and scores without once removing tongue from cheek." (2003 review of a song I did for a compilation.) When is the album coming out? That's to be announced. Check the News page to see where we're at so far. |
