EDUCATION & HARMONY EXPLOSION

Education is a big deal with us. We're always learning new songs and we're always learning better ways to sing and perform. Members can attend a world education symposium in South Carolina every summer, just as the men in SPEBQSA attend Harmony College.

Lower key events include “Summer Camp” where there's also lots of learning going on. Here's (clockwise) Marsha, Marnie, Dot, Lynda, and Terre trying to cool off at Summer Camp 2001.

Locally, we learn year-round, and have top-level coaches come in periodically to help us reach new levels as individuals and as a chorus. We all become stronger singers, little by little, and vocal strain is rare because we insist on singing correctly.

More importantly, we raise money to hold our annual Harmony Explosion for high-school students, held in conjunction with the men's Magnolia Chorus. This is an all-day Saturday event which draws hundreds of kids from different schools to just come and learn from experts about our style of harmony singing. It's fun and the day ends with a huge chorus of young men and women singing together on stage. The sound is awesome and everyone's musical horizons are broadened.

These kids on lunch break at Harmony Explosion 2001 know how many parts it takes to make a full, 'ringing' chord - FOUR!
