| Most of the commonly kept species are Corn Snakes (probably the most popular and great for the first time keeper. Rat Snakes, who are the Corns closest relative, a bit harder to look after but make excellent pets. Milk Snakes and King Snakes are both closely related. Milks and Kings must only be kept on their own. Both of them have be known to eat their housemates. So dont be suprised if one day, one of your Milk or King Snakes have gone if they share an enclosure. In the wild King Snakes sometimes eat eastern diamond back rattle Snakes which are venemous and bigger than Kings! Another good pet snake is the garter snake, they feed on fish and are a little smaller than the Snakes above, so if you are a bit squimish about feeding rodents to Snakes then the Garter Snake is the one for you. Also there are the larger Snakes like many different species of Phyton and Anaconda and Boa Constrictors, these Snakes are more expensive to look after and require bigger enclosures and feed on larger food items. these Snakes are best left the the expreienced Reptile keeper of hoobyist. (There will soon be pictures on my pet snake on this site.) |
