| Chapter 4 Esme' walks into the pediactric unit of the hospital. The sight of her baby boy on a hospital bed made her heart break. He was so pale. Stefan was sitting beside him and stood up when she entered. She went over to him and he wrapped his arms around her. /\/\/\ Gia walked into Dr. Meadows' office and sat down. "Mrs. Cassadine, we need to do a few tests and we can have the results for you in in an hour." Gia only nodded. /\/\/\ Sonny just got off the phone with Alexis. She had informed him of Jared's condition. They both felt that Helena was responsible for it. Sonny made a quick decision and left the penthouse, slamming the door behind him. /\/\/\ Stefan led Esme' to a chair and helped her sit down. She was pale. He thought it was from seeing Jared in that position, but he had no idea what was really going on through her head. /\**/\ "Luv, let's go get some coffee," Anna pleaded. "No, Anna, I can't leave her," Esme' said to her friend. "Esmeralda, being here isn't going to help her in any way. Being stressed out from lack of rest isn't going to help either," Robert said. Esme' looked up at him. Their eyes met. She closed her eyes and nodded. He helped her out of the chair and the three left the room. Twenty minutes later they returned to the room. One of the nurses was in there. "Oh, Ms. Scorpio, a woman stopped by to see Brianna earlier. She said that she was her grandmother." Esme', Robert, and Anna looked at each other. "What'd she look like?" Robert asked. "About sixty, blond hair, blue eyes, my height." "I'll call Frisco. Anna, Esmeralda, you stay here." Robert rushed out of the room and got on his cell phone. Three hours later, doctors and nurses rushed into the room. Esme' retreated to a corner of the room and cried. Her entire world collapsed around her as the doctors said that Brianna was dead. /\**/\ Esme' kept seeing Brianna in that same postion. A child, so helpless, so innocent. And she knew that Helena was behind it. /\/\/\ Sonny walked onto Helena's yacht and found her sipping some port. He hated the smug, arrogant look on her face. "Hello Mrs. Cassadine." "Mr. Corinthos." /\/\/\ Alexis walked into Jared's room. A million different things were going through her head, especially how Esme' was dealing with this. Alexis knew that she must be seeing Brianna also. She went over to Stefan and Emse'. They were watching Jared. Stefan looked up and he and Alexis spoke with their eyes. She nodded. He stood and left the room. Alexis sat beside Esme'. "I can't do this again Alexis. I've already lost one child because of Helena." "I know." "I need you to do something for me." "Anything." "Find Robert. He's here in Port Charles somewhere." "He's alive?" "Yes, but in hiding.Take this phone. All of the numbers are on it. Sean's, Frisco's, Robert's, they're all on here." She handed Alexis the other cell phone. Alexis nodded. "I'll find him." Alexis left the room as Stefan walked back in. She was completely unaware that he had heard the entire conversation. /\/\/\ "It would be wise for you to leave my sister alone," Sonny said. "Why should I? She married into the Cassadines which makes her fair game to all of the Cassadines. It also makes you and your family fair game." "Well, Helena, if you put it that way, since Stefan married MY sister, that in turn makes you MY fair game. No one messes with my family, Helena. It would be wise for you to remember that." "Even if she's lied to you all this time?" "What is that supposed to mean?" "Ask her why seeing Jared in a hospital bed makes her think of another child in that same postion so many years ago." Sonny glared at her then left. "Andreas," Helena said. "Yes, Madame." "Arrange a room at the Port Charles Hotel. Call Tanya and have her take the child there." "Of course Madame." /\/\/\ Alexis hit the first memeory button on the phone, no luck. She hit the second and after a minute someone picked up. "Scorpio," came a man's voice. "Robert Scorpio?" "Yes." "My name is Alexis Ashton, Esmeralda needed me to contact you." "Is she okay?" "I'm not sure. Her eldest son Jared was taken to the hospital with a mysterious toxin in his bloodstream." "Is he at GH?" "Yes." She heard him cursing on the other end. "Mrs. Ashton, tell her that I'll do what I can." He hung up before she could answer. /\/\/\ "Mrs. Cassadine, we have the test results back. They're postive. You're pregnant." Gia was shocked. "How far along?" "Two months." "What do I need to do?" "Well, I'm going to start you on some pre-natel vitamins and set up your doctor's appointments." Gia nodded. /\/\/\ Robert slid his phone back into his pocket and turned to Frisco. "What was that about?" Frisco asked. "It's Esmeralda. Her oldest son has been struck with some mysterious illness." "Mysterious, my a**" "My thoughts exactly." "And we can't go check on her because you're still dead and I'm Joe Campton." "I wish Anna was here." "So do I, but we can't waste time wishing. Esmeralda can't lose another child." "I just want to wring Helena's neck right now." "So do I, Robert, so do I." Robert thought for a moment. "Frisco, I have an idea." /\/\/\ Several hours later Helena walked into the hotel room that Andreas had arranged. A woman with short, curly black hair came up to her. "Madame." "Tanya, where is the child?" "Sleeping," Tanya answered. "I wish to see her." Tanya nodded and led Helena to a bedroom. Helena sat on the bed next to the girl. "Oh, my dear Mikkos, you shall know the extent of my revenge and it will be with the deaths of your remaining children." Helena stood and left. /\/\/\ Stefan held his wife as they watched their son slowly die. They both refused to accept that he was dying, but the doctors said, that without a cure, there was no hope. They could only pray. /\/\/\ Robert and Frisco waited for the guard to pass before boarding the yatch. Moving quietly they entered Helena's stateroom. They each went to a safe and started to work on the combinations. Frisco opened his first, Robert a few minutes later. They searched. "Bingo," Robert said slipping a bottle into his pocket. He nodded to Frisco and they left as quietly as they arrived. The only evidence that anyone was there, was the missing antidote from the safe. /\/\/\ Sonny walked into Jared's room. He saw Esme sitting by her son's bed, holding his hand. He smiled sadly and approached her. "Where's Stefan?" "He went to talk to Helena I think." "He's too late. I already have." She looked up and smiled at him. There was a slight knock at the door. Esme' looked past her brother and her eyes lit up. She ran to the man standing there and threw her arms around him. "What are you doing here Jones?" Frisco smiled. "I brought you something." He gave her the bottle. Her eyes grew wide. "It isn't?" "It is." "How?" He gave her a sheepish grin as she walked over to Jared. "Tell me you didn't." He was silent. "You broke into the yatch?" "Hey. There was no breaking involved. We entered her yatch." Esme' shook her head and put the medication into Jared's IV. Then she walked over to him. "Thank you," she said hugging him. "Hey, you'd've done the same for me." "Yes, I would have. You better go before someone sees you." "Yeah, bye Esme'." "Bye Jones." He left and Esme' turned to Sonny. She was about to sat something when a small voice spoke up. "Momma?"
