EGG TOSS, BINGO . .
. EITHER IT'S ALZHEIMER'S
OR I'M AT A NEWQUIST
FAMILY REUNION
And we were. Well, some of us anyway.
Quite a few, actually. Elaine Newquist and Peggy Newquist were among the
cousins who organized the latest gathering, held in July at a Palos Hills,
Illinois, forest preserve. The venerable egg toss challenge was held (who
won? Mary Kay? or Susan?), orchestrated by Dave, or maybe it was Danny.
(As usual per Newquist gatherings, the beer flowed smoothly!) It definitely
was Phyllis who ran the Bingo game--and who brought old family photos.
The family to travel the farthest was the Bud Newquist family, up from
Florida. Margi Newquist represented the Arizona-based Harvey Newquist family--although
she's now in Elgin--and let us know that her father, Harvey, has gathered
lots of family data (some of which was photocopied and given out at the
reunion), which will hopefully be appearing on this site soon. Scads of
Newquists from Chicago's south and southwest suburbs attended, including
Virginia, Dave, Danny, Jerry, Ron, and Tom and their families. But where
was the DeKalb contingent? Maybe next time!
Bud and his family, including Mike and
Patty, did some family history sleuthing while they were here, visiting
the old homestead in Steger that John Newquist built. Although the woman
who lived there was not inclined to let them in, she did talk with them
about the house's interior, with Bud accurately recalling in detail the
layout of his grandparents' house, where he lived during his childhood.
The gathering was the first reunion in
six years (and the previous reunion was a couple decades before that???)
and it was lots of fun. Elaine collected addresses and email addresses,
which hopefully will morph into an address book at this site soon.
Anyone up for another in a year or two?
Patty votes for having the next one in Florida . . . How about Thanksgiving
2000?
Til next month . . . |
