Plot: The Wayans brothers (3 of the 4, Marlon, Shawn starring, Keenen Ivory with a cameo and the directorial job, and Damon not in the picture) craft a parody of recent horror films, but mainly based on Scream.  The plot, although not very important in this case, is about a highschooler (Anna Faris) who along with her friends is being stalked by a mass murderer with a variation of the "Scream" mask on.  It plays out as a silly mystery to find out who the murderer is.
Critique: Scary Movie has its moments, but can't deliver enough laughs for a completely furfilling film, and is thus not recommendable in my humble opinion.  It is one of the many recent gross out films, a genre which I am not really a fan of.  Other examples of this popular new genre include the Road Trip, a funny flick, and Me, Myself and Irene, a really, really not funny film.  This genre attempt to cover not funny jokes by making them disgusting.  The only reason Road Trip was recommendable, was because Tom Green was so funny, and it knew its limites.  The Wayans brothers are a very talented bunch, who were flat out hilarious in In Living Color, and have time and time again proved themselves were not able to come in with the goods here.  I could analyze this movie, but that would not accomplish much.  There is obviously no great cinematography, or score, or even much in the way of acting, although Keenen Ivory doesn't do to bad in his humble direction.
The fact is it just was not funny enough.  It supplied some belly laughs, but just not enough!  It also grew less and less successful with its jokes as it came to an end.  I think the screenwriters ran out of material.  Even for an 82 minute film they could not create enough bulk.
In conclusion, the film made me laugh some, but not
that much.  The Wayans brothers were alright, but have been better, much better.  In terms of gross out genre films it could have been much worse.  Although for a gross out film I can't picture it being that great, it still could have been better.
