WHILE HE IS GONE

NOW THAT HE IS GONE, I AM REALLY STARTING TO HATE BEING ALONE. IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE FOR ME?

There is so much you can do to relieve loneliness and occupy your time. Here are a few suggestions and they may even point you to directions you never thought you would go. Remember that his job is important to him and you want to make sure that he is on top of his game. Let him leave with the peace of mind that you will be alright and that he has nothing to worry about.

Call the wives that you know whose husbands are gone on deployment with your husband. Start coffees or get-togethers with them. These are women who are in your situation. It is a lot easier to speak with people when they can understand your feelings. Start a support group with these women (you don't necessarily have to limit yourself with just women you know, extend it out to your neighbors, whose husbands are gone too).

If you do not have a job, think about getting one, or volunteer. If you do not have children, it is specially hard to keep your mind from being lonely. If you have a job, then that takes care of most of your time, by the time you get home, you'd be too tired to even get lonely. If you'd like volunteer, then there are a lot of places that would love to have you. Whether you have children or not, schools are a very good place to start and very rewarding too. Call your local Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society, they have wonderful volunteer programs and child care is free. Red Cross is another place you could go to volunteer. I, personally, am involved in Girl Scouting. It is a great pass time for me and I get to spend time with my children doing it. Pick up crafting. Join or form a bowling team or some sort of a team or group activity.

Have you thought about going to school. Wouldn't it be a nice surprise when he gets back and you greet him with your degree? Financial Aide and Grants are available. Just go to your local education center or college and get started.

Go to your local MWR to find out their recreational activities and sign up.

"Semper Gumby" is an e-mail discussion group I have created to further assist you. It is exclusively for information and support for Marine spouses, fiancees and mothers of Marines. It will answer your military related issues and concerns. Please click on the image to find out more.
