LINKS
LINKS is the acronym for Lifestyle Insights, Networking, Knowledge & Skills. It's greek to me too. What it does is, it will link you with other wives who can help you understand everything you need to know about the military. It will also help you understand what your husband does as a Marine. The ladies who facilitate these workshops are trained volunteers who are experienced and well versed in the military. Kind of "been there, done that". The facilitators are called Mentors. That is basically what they do. They will be your mentors and answer all your questions. These mentors are from different backgrounds in the military. They will teach you how to read an LES. They will tell you how to cope and deal with the major as well as minor things that could happen. You will leave the workshop with a wealth of information and probably friends. You can ask to have a mentor you can call anytime you need a question answered. You can call for advise in military related subjects. The extent of your relationship will depend on you.
The workshops are usually held at a site near a housing area. They are normally at a place easily accesible to wives, because they realize that sometimes there may not be transportation for you. Day care is free at these workshops. It is specifically designed to accomodate YOU. Contact your local Family Service Center to find out the next schedule.
