Florida! Finally!

After my visit to Charleston, I got going fairly early in the morning and took 17 on down to where it turns into I-95 and continued South.

The weather was kind -- while rainy, it only rained in spits and spurts; hardly worth putting raingear on for. And after maybe an hour of that, it slacked off entirely for the rest of my stay. Hallelujah brother!

I-95 was clear and smooth, but wickedly fast. People drive like idiot demons down there in...America. (You thought I was gonna say Florida, didn't you?) I came upon the exits for Daytona and continued past to I-4, which runs toward Orlando.

My room reservation was in a Days Inn in Sanford, FL. I'm told I have cousins there, but as I don't really know them, I didn't feel comfortable trying to call them and crash at their place. I was happy with the hotel price in Sanford, too -- less than half the cost of hotels closer to Daytona, plus I-4 is a nice little drive between Sanford and Daytona.

I rolled into Sanford about 4 pm, checked in, dumped my bags, and took off for Daytona. First a little gas and it was then I noticed that the price of gas is way low in Florida. In fact, had been along much of my route south. Then I began to notice that food prices are good, too. Seems that the cost of living is just generally a little lower there. That could be worth remembering when I'm 60.

I didn't do much in Daytona Friday night, just tooled around looking at all the vendors and exploring the roads. Daytona and the surrounding area are absolutely huge. I never made it to the beach, but I can imagine that it lives up to its rep.

Ate dinner at Denny's and went to be a little early Friday night. The Red Sox had lost the penant the night before and the World Series was to begin Saturday night, so I figured Saturday was going to be a long one for me.
