A little background...

If you've read the "About Me" page on the Sturgis Trip, you know all the essential details.

However, there are more things about me which motivated this trip that could be good to know.

I tend to be a loner and have always been a black sheep among my family. I don't think that's all that unusual in the biker community, though even there, I'm still a loner. I enjoy spending time on my own and am not afraid to head out for parts unknown without company. (A good half of my Sturgis trip was spent that way.)

I think it would be fine to be a hermit, but that isn't practical I'm afraid -- not with my career. But every now and then I get the opportunity to PLAY hermit or at least play the lone wanderer.

There's nothing like taking things at your own pace, especially since I tend to ride a little slower than a lot of the people I've ridden with and appreciate the road less traveled. There are a lot of things to see in this world, and not all of them will be around a decade, a year, or even a month from now.

I do have family, of course, though like preceding generations, we are all spread out. My brother lives in southern Texas, one sister in St. Louis, another in Charleston. My parents live mostly on the road; and I'm sure someday our wandering paths will cross. I like traveling to see them and a big part of that is that I've neglected to go see them enough in years past. Now, I suppose, they see too much of me.

But I do have a nephew! He's not yet two, but he's growing so fast. I want to see as much of him as I can while he's growing up and be as much a part of his life as my schedule and his parents allow. (Perhaps I will be a bad influence...heheh.)

It was with intent to see the Charleston sister that I began to think about a trip in October. That Biketoberfest was also in the middle of the month was complete coincidence, I swear! I also had not gotten to see much of the East Coast on previous trips and the bug to see more of the shore was planted by Roach's Shore Tour a few weeks earlier.

So with several reasons to go traveling, and an inexlicable disgust with New York rising in my gut, I decided to take another trip.
