Advice from a 2L... (READ: Announcements!)
I cannot reiterate enough: this site works best if the concepts have already been discussed and covered in class. This site should be your last resource, compare your notes to what I have listed. In the end, you should have everything I covered AND MORE!
TIPS for studying:
  • I created a Group on yahoogroups specifically for everyone in this class. Please add yourself on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crimlawhelp.

  • Read all of the assigned reading before each class.

  • Take notes on the reading and brief every case.

  • Make sure you know the relevance of each case. Why were you assigned to read it? You should understand how reading each case will help you to take your midterm and final.

  • Never miss class. If you do, ask a friend for the lecture notes.

  • Attend the Professor's office hours on a weekly basis.

TIPS for preparing for the midterm and final:
  • Realize that from the very first day of class, you will learn something valuable and useful for the midterm and final. Studying for the midterm and final does not start 2 weeks before the exams.

  • After the end of each week, review your notes and find the most important concepts you've learned. Copy these on to another notebook/word file to create an "outline" of the course.

  • Outline early. Start your outlines by the second-third week of school.

  • Keep an on-going list of all the crimes and defenses that the Professor has covered in class.

  • Create FLASHCARDS for each crime and defense, with all of the elements listed.

  • Carry these flashcards on you at all times and review them while you are walking to school, taking the BART, or standing in line at the McDonald's!

  • Read a past midterm/final exam to get a feel for what is expected of you.

  • A few weeks before the midterm, print out a copy of your outline and have the Professor read over it with you during office hours. Go home and revise it as soon as possible. Come back and show her the next day.

  • Attend your TA's review sessions. Email me with questions: [email protected].
