HERMIONE Here is Hermione and Crookshanks from book three. She is doing her homework. Unfortunately she didn't quite come out on the scanner but you get the general idea. She has a hefty tome of spells in front of her and Crookshanks is "helping" like most cats! She was fiendish to make but it all ended quite well in the end. The reason I am making all these applique blocks is to surround a central panel of Harry Potter. I need four more blocks and am trying to find some inspiration at the moment.

Mrs Norris and Crookshanks. Here is Crookshanks Hermione's cat from book three and Mrs Norris the caretaker's cat - Unpetrified at this stage. These were a delight to make... significantly easier than some of the others. All the black markings on the blocks are done with a pigma pen. It was much easier than using black embroidery and gave the opportunity to add fine features and shadows to create depth. I rather like the self satisfied look in Crookshank's face - a cat with attitude. Mrs Norris didn't turn out as raggedy as I had hoped however the material helps that along.

NORBERT This is taken from a colouring book. It was a quite nice clear design to use. Fiendish to sew but I am beginning to think that with all these witches and wizards around why should it be any other way. Norbert has just hatched out and is puffing away. Unfortunately the definition isn't as good in the picture but he is sitting partially inside the egg and partially out. The worst bit of this little devil was the head and trying to get the smoke come out of the nostrils... drove me quite batty at the time if you will pardon the allusion. He came out quite well in the end.
