Some of my friends on the Jane list are aware that recently I have been taking an interest in providing items for priests and churches to use. I made a stole earlier for my Priest Fr Mark to wear and I was itching to make another so I asked him if there was one he would like. He said he would dearly love a Pentecost Stole that he could use at that feast and also for Confirmations etc. Well Good Friday I got inspired and went home and designed one. When I had finished my only thought was... YOU TWIT!!!!!!!!
I looked at my design and realised that it had a total of 136 pieces that needed to be needle turn appliqued down by hand. That is fine so far but I worked out that to do it I needed to mark and cut one piece at a time and sew it down and then do the next... I don't know how many hours it took me in the end but I was very pleased with it when I finished it. DH felt it lived on the top of our kitchen table way too long for his taste.
Fr Mark seemed to like it by the expression on his face there and he wore it at a recent confirmation performed by Bishop Phillip Aspinall. This Photo was taken just before the 7.30 am service on the Feast of Pentecost.
Here is another picture of him wearing the stole. There seems to be a rather dubious character with him who was also on deck that morning as a Lay Assistant. I wonder who that could be Hmmmm?????
This quilt is here to fill up the page. It was a piece of wimsy on my part. Last year 1999 I made a stack and whack quilt for my nephew that was a great success. He loved it. As is the way with those types of quilts I had heaps of fabric over. Fish everywhere.
It so happens that my former parish priest is an enthusiastic fisherman and often tells us about his success or otherwise in catching fish. I have yet to see a fish he has caught though I am assured by others he does. Anyway I thought all fisherman dream of catching the "big one" so I made this quilt which is called "The Vicar's Dream"
It is cotton and silver with synthetic batt. The silver boat is at the top being dragged down by the whopper King George Whiting on the end of the line. Note the Great White Shark lurking and other features such as treasure chest (with jewels) starfish, shells etc. It was greeted with lots of laughs at a combined birthday bash for Horses, Fr Mark and my Sister in Law. I had great fun making it and it is an original design.
