OK, so we have been living in England for almost three years and havent yet made it North of Nuneaton. Pretty pitiful. Although we havent visited much, we have enjoyed almost every part of England that we have visited. Im sure well get up to the North at some point.

London

Lived there: September 2004 - Present
London is a lot of things, but boring isnt one of them. There is always something going on. The thing I like most about London is that it is more like a collection of villages than a single city. Within a hour you can feel like can travel from Bangla town in Shoreditch to a jungle of mirror glass and pinstripe suits in the City, from punk Camden to Georgian Hampstead and from trendy Notting Hill to Caribbean Brixton.

We live on the south side of the Thames in the Borough/Bankside area South East London see here for information about the attractions, bars and restaurants in our neighbourhood.

Arrive

London has 5 airports: Heathrow to the West of the City; Gatwick to the South; Luton to the North; Stansted to the North East; and City Airport to the East in the Docklands.

If you are arriving on a long-haul flight, chances are you will arrive at either Heathrow or Gatwick. I am going to update this page with information about how to get to and from Londons airports, but cant face doing it today..

Rest

I read in a newspaper recently that the average price of a hotel room in London is 117. If you are not earning pounds, this is a lot of money. You are doing very well if you get away with paying less than 50 per night. If you have any acquaintances in London it is worth getting to know them better so that you can stay with them or do a house swap.
