The Dead Engineers Society

The principal behind the Dead Engineers Society (DES) is that the majority of engineers want to be dead. The lifeblood of any engineer is engineering, however, the career goal of most engineers is in management. Since managers do little engineering, they essentially die. Thus the goal of most engineers is to be dead, an animated corpse in a corner office with a big fat paycheck and a computer they don't know how to use.

A career in engineering is very rewarding. Engineering work is mentally challenging and allows one to work in a technically advanced environment. Being an engineer is also a respected and esteemed position. Women adore male engineers. Women don't necessarily want to date engineers, but they sure like to marry them. Engineers generally lack the social skills needed to be an unfaithful spouse ensuring the wife of an engineer a lifetime of fidelity. The author of this report has been unable to obtain information related to the social lives of female engineers because my female colleagues find me creepy and generally avoid me at all costs.

Unfortunately the career path of most engineers takes them out of engineering and into engineering management. A promotion for an engineer often marks the end of actual engineering.

Once separated from our lifeblood an engineer will quickly die. If theres doubt that one's manager is dead, present them with a difficult engineering problem with a risky technically advanced solution. A live engineer will become excited by the challenge. A dead engineer will fret over the potential schedule impact and customer reaction.
