Electronic mail

E-mail allows written messages and files( documents, pictures, sound, games, video etc) to be sent using a computer and communications channel.

E-mail can be internal to a company and be protected by a firewall against intrusion from outside the company. It can be external and be sent around the world. Privacy is an issue with e-mail as it is difficult to protect it against unauthorised people reading the mail.

Free email is offered by companies on the internet (hotmail, rocketmail, yahoo, geocities and others), ISP and bulletin board operators.
