A bit is the smallest
unit for storing data and is either 0 or 1. A byte generally consists of 8 bits
and represents a single character of data. A word is the number of bits
processed by the CPU at one time. There are many codes. ASCII is the American
Standard Code for Information Interchange. EBDIC stands for Extended Binary
Coded Decimal Interchange Code.
