15.1 Basic Features

A database is an organised collection of data. A flat file database is the simplest type of database. Databases can be prepared(closed) or empty(flexible) database. CDs that have encyclopaedia or telephone numbers have prepared databases.

A file is a block of data. A record is a collection of facts about one specific entry in a database. A field is a specific piece of data. A character is a letter, number or special symbol.
