11.4 Applications
There are three types of control systems
Ø Continuous systems operate non stop
Ø Batch system completes a number of tasks in a well defined sequence
Ø Discrete system completes a single task in a small time interval
Control systems can be called open or closed loop. Open loop means that there is no feedback to control it. Closed loop contains a feedback to control the operation. **Draw figs 11.9 & 11.10 p222**
Overdamping occurs if the change is slow to respond. Underdamping is when the change is to fast and it can go out of control. Critical damping it the desired speed to change the output of the system.
