11.2 Software
Software co-ordinates the input from the sensors, stores data, makes logical decisions and commands the actuators. Programming languages have been written for specific task of controlling robots. These are called non procedural languages.

True or False? Write out the true sentences and change the false sentences so that they are true.

Monitoring and
control systems do not need software. |
|
Nonprocedural
languages require a series of steps which, when performed correctly, will
solve the problem. |
|
Specific commands
are used in general purpose languages for monitoring and control systems. |
|
A loop allows a number
of steps to be repeated. |
|
Actuators are
devices that, under the control of a signal, carry out a mechanical action. |
|
A relay is the
most common type of actuator. |
|
A stepping motor
is an electric motor that can acurately measure the rotations of a motor
spindle. |
|
An A/D converter
converts a digital signal into an analogue signal. |
|
Systems under
closed loop control get feedback from a sensor to alter the operation of the
device. |
|
Grippers, tools
and sensors are all end effectors. |
