10.2 Software

Graphics programs are classified into Paint and Draw programs depending on how the graphic is stored. Animation programs create the illusion of movement and are used for cartoons. Path based animation involves drawing individual frames and displaying them in sequence. Cell-based animation involves displaying the movement of objects onto a fixed background.

Warping is the smooth change between two images that have completely different shapes. Morphing is the smooth change between two images that are similar in shape.

True or False? Write out the true sentences and change the false sentences so that they are true.

Most application software contain no graphics tools.

A paint program creates a graphic by telling the computer how to display each pixel.

Bit-mapped graphics are edited by changing the characteristics of each object, not by earasing or adding dots.

Draw programs create graphics by dividing the picture into a number of objects such as a straight line curve or shape.

Vector graphics are edited by erasing or adding dots, using a range of tools.

Animation is set frequently at 10 frames per second or 3000 frames for a five minute cartoon.

Path-based animation involves drawing and displaying individual frames in a particular sequence or path.

Cell animation involves displaying the movement of objects on to a fixed background.

Warping is the smooth change between two images that have a similar shape.

Morphing is the smooth change between two images that have completely different shapes.
